Join host Chris Stacey, a historian of Chicago, for a walk in Chicago's Loop. We'll discuss the history of the Chicago Style of architecture and concepts such as bearing masonry, cage construction, skeleton construction, and the cultural meanings of "the vertical city" as a symbol of Chicago's centrality to international concepts about "modernity". We'll visit The Rookery, The Auditorium, The Monadnock, The Marquette, the Second Leiter Building and a few more classics. Afterward you are welcome to join Chris for an early evening dinner in The Loop. This walk pairs well with the July 8 Zoom presentation "History of Chicago: Chicago’s Architectural Innovations."
