In-Person Book Club: “Convenience Store Woman: A Novel” by Sayaka Murata

Join co-hosts Anne Moore and Chris Stacey for an innovative, exciting, and passionate approach to world literature. We select a country and pick three books over the course of three months: one contemporary, one non-fiction, and one classic. Our current country is Japan. In our first meeting we discuss the contemporary selection Convenience Store Woman: A Novel by Sayaka Murata. A brilliant depiction of an unusual psyche and a world hidden from view, Convenience Store Woman is an ironic and sharp-eyed look at contemporary work culture and the pressures to conform, as well as a charming and completely fresh portrait of an unforgettable heroine. Shortlisted for the Best Translated Book Award, Longlisted for the Believer Book Award, and Longlisted for the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation.

We hope to see you in August to help us create a community you’ll find inviting, fun, engaging and a place to sustain meaningful friendships.
