The in-person book club starts the Fall season with an innovative, exciting, and passionate approach to world literature. What is better than spending a few hours eating, drinking, socializing, and meeting new friends over a discussion about a captivating book? Our approach is to select a country and the pick three books over the course of three months: one contemporary, one non-fiction, and one classic.
Our inaugural meeting starts with a contemporary selection from Korea. Co-founder Anne Moore selected The Vegetarian by Han Kang, translated from the Korean by Deborah Smith. The Vegetarian was the winner of the Man Booker International Prize in 2016 and one of top ten New York Times books in 2016. “A young wife in Korea is troubled by nightmares, which leads her to give up eating meat. This simple act of autonomy causes her to lose her husband, her family, and her place in the everyday world." 185 pages.
Our next selection in November is a work of non-fiction from Korea. We hope to see you in October to help us create a community you’ll find inviting, fun, engaging, and a place to sustain meaningful friendships.
