Join host Chris Stacey, special guest Elena Liao, and fellow Columbia alumni for any evening of sociability and a fantastic tea tasting experience. Elena Liao is the owner of Té Company in New York City, and she sources exquisite teas directly from small farmers in Taiwan. For this tasting event, Elena provides us with 3-5 of her “iconic” wulong teas. We will taste these teas live in Chicago as Elena walks us through tea essentials via Zoom. We will explore styles ranging from bright high-mountain oolongs to charcoal-roasted profiles. As we trace each tea's journey from leaf to cup, you'll learn about your preferred flavors and brewing techniques. Our tasting includes teas, Taiwanese pineapple cake with salted yolk, black sesame cake, your own porcelain teacup, and a chance to win one of three porcelain tea pitchers.

About the Teas
Taiwanese oolong is the darling of the tea world. Taiwan specializes in oolong tea – the production of which requires highly skilled tea makers with centuries of experience. The tea trade first came to Taiwan from Fujian in China, a province known for its oolongs. Taiwan went through half a century of Japanese occupation, which brought scientific precision to the traditional teamaking craft. Less than 1% of the world’s tea production comes from Taiwan and historically the best product is kept domestically.
