Adventures of Huckleberry Finn follows Huck, who fakes his own death to escape his abusive father, and Jim, an enslaved man fleeing sale downriver, as they raft down the Mississippi. After missing the mouth of the Ohio at Cairo, they drift deeper into the South, encountering a feuding family, assorted criminals, and the con men known as the Duke and the Dauphin. Huck increasingly acts on his own moral judgment, most notably when he thwarts their fraud against the orphaned Wilks sisters. When the con men sell Jim to the Phelps family, Huck must choose between the racist morality he has been taught and his loyalty to Jim.
